This brings back memories of my dad… his sayings and ways. He was gentle and would say “I’m only telling you once! “We learned afte being grounded to respect that threat-advice? 😄”Damn it to hell” was like the worst swearing he could think of. Many of your dad’s sayings were like mine…no matter he was from England. Dadisms maybe. 🥰 Love that you soebt time on Zuma beach… one of our favorite day trips from Ventura. Wonder if that great burger place across PCH is still there? Motorcycles galore, but the nicest people every time we went. Love your family stories…great writing! 🩷
I am so happy this brought back good memories of your dad! I rolled with laughter over "Damn it to hell!" That was another one for sure! (except I believe I've used it! and one of the kids repeated it! ha ha! - oops - I have some real repenting to do. Ahhh. always trying to pick myself back up off the floor!). Dad isms, no matter where we're from, are classic! Yes, Zuma was a favorite 70's hangout and I don't know? I imagine that burger place has probably changed over the years if not replaced. But when it's a motorcycle gathering place you never know! There's some old hangs like that that are still around :)
Thank you for your kindness and friendship! I love your stories too. Hope you have a good week :) ox
How I miss those isms. Dad was often "flabbergasted". When he accomplished a task he would say "Bob's your uncle" and wait for the reply "and Fanny's your aunt". The kids were "little buggers" and most events were " Unbelievable"..
we miss him so much. These are great! 😅 I forget how he had so many sayings and isms! Truly a character! We can hear him saying "unbelievable" and "mind boggling" all day! ha ha!
Ha ha! He had so many isms! 😭 When I was younger he mumbled under his breath "bloody" then said loudly "unbelievable." As he got older that was his classic with the mind boggling one! Lol! He definitely used that last one with a big laugh! Oh and if I stumbled he'd say, "enjoy your trip Grace?" 😂 It's not the same without him 😔 Thank you little brother! Love you! We were blessed by dad in many ways. ox
I am on the same wavelength with my dad. I lost him in 2016 but it seems just like yesterday. Why is it that it is when we lose them that their voices become so much ouder and clearer to usleft behind? The life lessons his left me, I hold onto dearly. And I still regularly write to him.
Your youth looks so much fun! And to have your dad just allow you to take in life. 🙂

I love this and that you write to your dad often. Guess this is where I do that. If only we had five more minutes with them ✨
Someday I will try and read it! I am one of those people who has a big pile and I don't know where to start! My mom wrote a novel too (I think when you and I met I told you about the story A War of Remembrance I wrote based on her novel) and was telling me last night she wished I could publish it. First I told her it needs copywriting (which I'm uncertain why she didn't begin the process all these years). It's a big undertaking as I believe it needs to be gone back over. It's a war novel and now's the time (sadly b/c of all the big wars) but it is very overwhelming. I might go back through all your advice pieces or email you at some point with some questions! ox
Thank you Elizabeth! I will be investing some time in your writing soon! I love that we are all here telling our stories! This is the best thing I've been a part of in ages :) Dad was a gem. ox
Jenni! that's awesome! We have a lot in common! Now I look for band t's in second hand shops! Thank you for reading this! It's fun to reflect ❤️ Wish I had five more minutes. ox
I'm so sorry you had to go through that with your dad and really happy you let go in the end and loved like God does. I just don't think we can do it on our own. Alcohol ate away who your dad truly was and I'm sure delivering him that kind of Godly love at the end made a real difference in his heart and in his death. Plus you loved the dad you knew to be the man he was without the disease. That kind of love, if we are guided to share it, is fully peace giving. I'm so glad you had that moment. Thank you for sharing this. Forgiveness truly does set us free.

Love this
Thank you so much Rivka 🩵 ox
It's amazing how much we remember when they're gone. Everything he said "stuck."
Big big hugs coming to you 💙🙏💫🥰🤗🤗🤗
Thank you Joyce! Back at you 😘🩵🤗
"Unbelievable"
"It's mind boggling"
"Don't go ass over tit"
lol, 3 of my absolute faves & it's him saying it with his accent that makes it the best.
The Gunn house isn't the same without him :(
This was great Sis...& so true!!

I loved these memories of your dad, and how he trusted you to be smart and follow the rules. Sounds like an awesome dad. ❤️
Thank you Jenn! He was a good dad. Solid. I appreciate him so much more now and wish I could tell him that. I did tell him, but never enough. ox

They were good dads. Thank you for this. ox
This is a beautiful reflection.
I have a harmonica! hahah
ha ha! Were you there? on that beach? too funny! A rare breed indeed! The harmonica players!
I love the sound, in my book Paradise Harbour I even had a character who was a street harmonica player

I’d love to help for sure, it needs to be published no doubt!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Thick as a Brick! I remember it well. Smiling all through this wonderful memory lane journey. Your dad was a gem.
