The Web | Email Experiment
and going crazy.
Dear Reader,
Okay — I published something today without sending an email. Then I wrote an email to say I wouldn’t be sending emails anymore. Then: I GOT A LOT OF FEEDBACK.
Now. I can’t get my hand off my face and I promise this is the last of this.
Thank you if you responded. Looks like it’s all crazy making to me (and probably you). The best breakdown (that I didn’t understand) is from perfectlight , a wonderful photography Substack account:
Apparently I am not:
sending emails from my personal email address to
my personal email address - I am sending an email
from my substack email address to other substack
email addresses and from there it is forwarded to a
private email address “only if the receiver has that
option clicked.” Perfectlight told me they never read my
posts in their email address as they have that option blocked from the start.
Soooooooo with said feedback, mostly ALL received in my spam folder (??) there are several of you that “only read in email or are notified by email.” I’m assuming, at this point, if you don’t want to be here, you’ve already up and left the party. Which is totally cool and the entire point of reaching out.
“Clean up your account so it functions better.” Another piece of advice.
For four years I thought I needed to “publish” my work to the subscriber email list. In fact, it’s encouraged as the best practice. And, after all this fun, apparently I do need to continue sending my posts via my Substack email and hope for the best in terms of my site functioning better (seeing as my recent email communication with subscribers has mostly been found in my spam box — and God knows what else has landed there because I rarely checked spam until now)
Going forward, if you want to take a good look at your settings, in terms of notifications, and/or set up the Substack app, the same — I’ll be here working solely on my fictional piece, The Jacket.
I’m also active on “Notes” (in the menu above) — so check in with me :)
I understand the annoyance of the email box and I honestly don’t want to frustrate anyone. That’s not why I’m here. I am here to engage and enjoy the blessing of creating.
It’s about having more of an authentic community. Not subscriber numbers.
Sorry if it feels like I’m blasting you with my Spyra 3 or confusing you in a web of madness < insert water emoji >
Thank you for your continued support if you’re reading this :)
Okay. I’m done.

Don't feel lonely. Today I had a post scheduled to go out in the morning. While I got the notification of "sharable assets" the post never went out. So I duplicated it and sent the second one, and of course... people got two. Substack is getting weirder.
Hi I got your email. But I have my settings on only receiving posts in the app. That said your link in the email I received didn’t work. Another feedback is I cannot read any color of text on a black background very well. Many people appear to have chosen that and now when clicking on posts in the app it takes me right to sites including how the author has it set up. It won’t stop me from reading your work but I’m having issues with vertigo on and off and black backgrounds make it worse, so my reading might be delayed.
