It’s amazing how vivid this memory is, so special when it stays fresh in the mind. Btw, have you had orange marmalade with peanut butter in a sandwich?
My mom would never buy Wonder Bread like most other moms in our neighborhood in the early ‘60s. She called it “paperhanger’s paste”, and she would buy only hearty brown whole wheat bread. She read Adelle Davis and bought extra butterfat “golden guernsey” milk. My siblings and I didn’t seem any healthier than any of the other kids though, and in the neighborhood kickball games we weren’t as athletic as the other kids. Maybe that paperhanger’s paste had some unknown nutrients. 😊
Karen! oh my goodness! What a classic mom! ha ha! Paperhangers paste! She was onto something! It definitely clung to the teeth! My mom never bought it but I tasted it at friend's houses! That extra golden Guernsey milk might definitely have weighted you down! 😂🤦♀️😩 Oh what funny parents! Our main course is still butter when I visit mom! ha ha!
Thank you for reading and commenting! Have a great weekend 😘
Oh, I love this so much. I was the kid with weird lunches, too, because my mom would make our bread from scratch. It was delicious, but I was always a little envious of the kids who had store bought bread or cafeteria lunch. One day a kid who had the same lunchbox as me grabbed mine by accident. He opened it up and found my mom’s home made sandwich and I opened his up and found a meat sandwich on store bread. I was eager to switch, but, alas, Jason ate a huge bite out of mine and it was ruined. I was mad but now I feel sorry for Jason and his baloney on white and understand why he couldn’t resist my mom’s sandwich. Poor Jason. The teachers made us switch back, but now I wish he could have finished my sandwich.
I am glad you finally discovered the right way to enjoy a pb&j 😁
Ha ha! Poor Jason!!! How envy turns to gratitude! We obviously had great moms! I find my quirky ways to be a blessing now! and, of course, I had to pick an unpopular jam and I LOVE IT! Not much has changed 😅 I was so into peanut butter and plum sandwiches that when all three kids went off to college I packed plum jam for them! 😂 My youngest said, "I'm sure I can find this in a market in New York. Why did you pack three jars? 🤣" I'm still laughing.
Yes, we had great moms! The quirks turned out to be the best! That is so hilarious that you packed three jars, and I hope your child thought of what an awesome mom you are every time they made a sandwich, and loved you all the more for your sweet quirk ☺️

Oh yess it's part of the story! 😂 I turned myself off of it! lol
That sounds delicious. We are supposed to eat steak for dinner and I almost find myself wishing for a pbj instead.
ah steak is so good too haha
It was good, haha. Tomorrow a PBJ. 😂

I laughed so hard and simultaneously felt silly! They will never forget the pp&j madness! ha ha!
Let’s hope not, honestly. I hope they all tell silly stories about us that make them laugh after we are gone ❤️
Me too 🙌🏻😂❤️
