Dear Chris, how did I miss this? I am so very sorry! Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are a longtime gem to me and I am so thankful we are connected again. I love you. ox
Deb, I read an essay by Brian Doyle the other night titled 'Joyas Voladoras', about hummingbirds. (It's the first essay in One Long River of Song, a remarkable collection.) Or you could copy and past the link.... https://theamericanscholar.org/joyas-volardores/)
Anyway--The words translate as 'flying jewels;' could there be anything more appropriately named?
Your parallels between photographing such jewels are apt and amusing, I must say. I always enjoy your writing--well done. (And feel better soon!)
Jody, I am amazed that you were reading Joyas Voladoras', at a similar time I was writing! I just read it with so much awe.
"So much held in a heart in a lifetime. So much held in a heart in a day, an hour, a moment. We are utterly open with no one in the end—not mother and father, not wife or husband, not lover, not child, not friend. We open windows to each but we live alone in the house of the heart." This I felt.
Thank you for sending his beautiful essay my way and thank you for your encouragement. It means so much. I write, not from knowledge or education, but began to write after I felt deeply broken with nowhere to turn. ox
I'm glad I'm here too and I'm especially glad to see you here. I think you will appreciate the platform. We can encourage each other. I consider you a mentor. I have a lot to learn, yet I'm a bit wild -- and I believe that's what attracts me to you and your writing. I feel the depth and the wild in you. (I love that and the fact that God knows it :) oxox
Me too mom. I think dad and I shared a love of them. You always had feeders and they love to visit rain or shine. There's never a time I don't think of dad when I see one. (and yes, from the ground level! lol) I love you mom and I love how God brings us reminders of those we have loved and lost. ox
You too are a gem. Oh my friend. I'm so sorry about your eye and toe. I'm praying you.
Oh life. I live that you see the best in it all. Love you

I always felt like God created hummingbirds & dogs to be his Angels.
Hummingbirds to appear for the loved ones we have lost & Dogs to remind us of the unconditional love we must cherish for humanity.
Love you, Love this writing & please, no more ladders ❤🙏
I love that and He sure does use his beautiful and often broken creations to teach us.
Thank you brother. and, yes, no more ladders. Love you. oxox

Deb, I'm grateful for the connection through writing and God's timing. And very grateful to share Brian Doyle's work with you. He was one gifted man.
I'm glad you're here. xo

Every time I see a hummingbird I think of your Dad & his passion for photographing them. I'm also glad he did it from the ground level 😘
