Wow, I’ve always admired professional photographers. You can capture so much love and beauty, the stories, the possibilities are endless. Your work is amazing, such cool photos, Deborah. 🩵

Me too Grace. I have so many books about photographers from the past :)

It’s not an easy profession and I feel so grateful I got to work like I did. I still do on occasion - but it was a huge part of my life for 22 years before the pandemic hit. Then it seemed the pandemic stole that part of me. There was so much grief, loss, pain for us and many people. I lost my work and detached from all I had done for awhile. I’m really glad to be talking about it more again. I think the stories hold some value - just like the photographers before us held value with their stories.

Thank you so much for your kind comment. ox

Honoured to read your beautiful journey as a photographer. It’s meaningful and stories and fulfilling all at once. I sense that fulfilment came from within and not dependent on external forces. What a gift!

Oh thank you so much for indulging me. It’s been very cathartic to get some of my past career stories down. I look back and wonder how I did it at all. It’s so strange. It was a crazy time and I loved every minute. I love to see the world through people with my lens. Still do - just no pressure! I hope I can encourage anyone at that age to never give up on a younger dream. It can be done — albeit I think a bit harder now that the field is as flooded as the writing field! It’s all about belief in yourself though. ox

Thank you so much dear Mary. I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to fulfill a purpose and an avenue where I learned so much about people and creativity. I loved giving my work as a gift too, or to help a young couple on a budget. I met a lot of amazing people through photography. And arthritis is no picnic — but we all have something don’t we? Hope you’re doing well and having a lovely day. ox

It's not an easy profession, I know this well as my brother is a photographer, my daughter is a photographer, and my son is a filmmaker/editor. My daughter often has a sore back after working on a shoot. And so many people just think you simply press a button!

Thank you for this; it was interesting to read about your background.

Oy that’s a lot of photographers/creatives around you! Yes, so you understand it’s quite a bit of work and knowledge. But as a horsewoman too, as well as a writer, you know exactly the passion and effort that goes into these things. The aches and pains too. And your daughter is young - but that backache — I felt it too. I’d get low back pain due to compressed discs and a loose pelvic bone that would press in my butt area and give me agony — (years of ballet and a few accidents, including the ski accident made it worse). Then my inherited shoulders from dad. HORRIBLE pain - but if I’m not busy it’s worse and I loved something that was hard on my body. When you’re in it you don’t feel it. When you stop — it’s screaming pain for a few days and then you start over.

I’ll tell you what - just the babysitting part of reaching into my car to strap a child into a carseat has to be the most annoying back pain. It was always stuck or not plugging in and then my grandchild would hop out or fidget and I’d have to stand up straight, breathe — and prepare to try again! lol.

Thank you for reading my story! It’s fun to get some of this history down. Very cathartic. ox

Thank you Julie! I honestly look back and can’t believe I did it. 22 years of my life and I’m ready to get all the stories down — (for when my family finds me way off in the future). oxox
