Thank you for a very delightful story about auto collecting. It resonates with me because my ex father-in-law was a car junkie and always had one or two cars in their garage and work shop torn apart with parts all over the place. He never seem to finish them very fast. One time he worked on one of our cars which he had for three months! Kid you not, Lol! Fortunately my ex-husband did not want to get his hands dirty like that. And my current husband doesn’t know anything about cars except to drive them.

But in some respects, those were lovely days because men could enjoy cars as a hobby. Today I’m not sure hobby is collecting the new modern cars.

Have a beautiful day, and thank you again!

Charlotte! 3 months!! 🚙 💨 Oh goodness?! I know dad loved it when I had a car of my own (just not the FIAT!) because it was an excuse to work on it which could drive me crazy when I needed to get somewhere 😅. Car nuts are a fun group of people! As I grew in my photography career I worked for the City of Ontario as one of my many contracts and I got to cover the annual Route 66 Cruisin Reunion! It was wonderful meeting people and their cars! Great conversations! Kept dad close to my heart while covering them (my folks moved to Oregon in the 90's). Plus photography was his big hobby too.

Thank you so much for reading this! I had a good laugh writing it! 😅

Ha! Ha! We lived through good days! We had a trans am which my ex husband lived but for some reason I was embarrassed to drive. I guess it was that Macho Man Car thing! 😅

Awesome memory, thank you for sharing it here. What a beautiful picture of your mother, too. Sounds like your childhood was exciting in the best ways. I also once had a rescue mastiff, we think he was mixed with Lab; he was huge and brindle with golden eyes.

Awe Jenn! thank you for this! "The Brits in America" were definitely fun at times! 😂

I loved our sweet boy "Duke" ❤️ Aren't Mastiffs big babies? Combined with lab would be an amazing personality! oxox

btw, I have a story (it's long) in here about my husband's grandfather who was a mid century artist in California back in the day. We adore art. He did a lot of charcoal, pastel, ink block, lino cut. Some of his work is archived at MOMA in New York. https://deborahthewitt.substack.com/p/when-the-last-ship-sails

I also found a manuscript last summer of a tape he made and how he felt about life and art. I was in tears reading it. Another long one called "Hidden Gems." (I write of it more at the end of some news stories I encountered during that week) I was on an emotional "roll!"

Wow, thank you for directing me to read what you wrote about your husband’s grandfather. What an amazing story. I will have to look up the “Hidden Gems” one, too. And his art. My big guy’s name was Cyrus ☺️.

Don't you love history! and family stories! Do you have an artist in your family, like parents or grandparents?

Oh gosh! Cyrus ❤️ What a wonderful regal name 🐶

Yes, I do love things of that nature! Both of my parents were artsy, my dad builds furniture as a hobby (I have several very special pieces that he’s made for me ❤️) and he draws well, too. My mother used to make quilts and sew clothes for us and stitch, she taught me to sew and quilt and stitch.

Love this! What a gorgeous, glamourous photo of your mom! And your dad made jewelry... so cool! A car nut too...what a guy! 😁I can tell how much you miss him. Love this story and that your sweet mom remembers it with joy! ❤️😊

Thank you Joan ❤️ The Brits in America 😂 I really do miss dad. He was a character. Grateful I have his need-to-create gene! I should write about the jewelry! He always had something interesting going on at the workbench and I still see him telling me to lie down on a flat roller to look under my car so he could teach me what was going on.. so I wouldn't get "rooked" by a random mechanic when I was out on my own ☺️ Mom always looked like a movie star to me! She taught us to be stylish on a tiny budget. It's great to hear mom remember stories. I so appreciate your stories too! Thank you again 🙏🏻😘

Lol my Friend he was we southerners call a car nut. And a good southern man would have also left his wife because she was valuable to him! But I too had a Gran Torino. It had a black vinyl top no convertible for me. With a 2 door silver body. But MY Torino was unique because every time you started it. It took two people. One to turn the key and one to hold a rag over the carburetor (with filter holder removed) because it shot FIRE out of it every time you cranked it. I promise. Yes you read that right 🔥. I met my serious high school boyfriend with that car. He held the rag. He is now a mechanic. Or he was before he got Covid. I drove the heck out of that car for about 4 years, 1978 to 1982. It had a lot of memories when I decided to get another one. I love when your wonderful stories bring back a good funny memory. Thank you for another one! And yes i remember Auto Trader.

Jenni!

ha ha! that's crazy! Giving away cars to his young fans! I can see the boyfriend I had who'd rather hangout in dad's garage than be with me! 😭 Thinking 🤔 he was only in it for the car guru! lol! But dad was always turning them around for extra cash! It was a win-win! He got to touch these cars, make them so you could eat off the engine, drive them a few months and earn the extra cash to survive in America! It was brilliant to watch him! as much as our dads could be annoyed too! 😅

Mum as a deposit was just too much! 😭😭

Thank you for reading and leaving a comment!! ox
