I’m so impressed, and if you hadn’t told me you are a newbie sketcher, I would have never guessed! I love this so much, and it fits some of the vibrant art we have in our home.

As you know I babysit a little girl, and for her birthday I bought her a nice set of colored pencils and a book on sketching. So we are learning together!

My third and fourth years in college my three roommates could draw very well. Two were art majors, the other a dancer like me with a gift for art. They inspired me to practice, and I must say I was surprised by how much I had improved over a year. But after graduating I didn’t continue my new live. Now I’m motivated to draw. Thank you Deborah!

Omgosh Charlotte! I’m having so much fun and received a giant box of new colored pencils today! lol. I was buying all of this stuff for my daughter for years, who would sit outside and paint her way through high school. Now she’s doing this for our grandson and we are too. Then one day, with the last poem/piece of the year “Ode to the King” - I felt God tell me to draw a crown. It was honestly a prompt that I couldn’t let go of. I don’t do art on paper at all. But, much like the way I heard the title for my Substack and began to write - it was a call to “begin” something new again. That is so cool you love on and support the little girl you babysit. It’s so so special to have that sealed away in her heart and yours. Asher and I are doing this together too! and my oldest granddaughter, 7.5 also, wants to write poetry together!!! How cool you had roomies who were artists. Dance and visual arts actually go hand in hand. I’m so glad this inspired you! You inspire me!! Thank you so much again. oxox https://open.substack.com/pub/deborahthewitt/p/ode-to-the-king?r=kn8dx&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false

In my recent essay about my mother is luminescent ashes I talked about her Doctor Who conservator so beautifully when she laid her last days of life in the hospital. It’s his granddaughter I babysit and tutor a few hours a night each evening. Well, about five years ago before Covid his mother-in-law was in a rest home and the family hired me to go in evenings to be sure the staff fed her properly and she had company. She was an amazing artist and I thought I would bring colored pencils and an coloring book (the kind for adults but I don’t mean ❌ rated, lol). So I bought the pencil it’s a no hoping she could take up coloring at her age of 99. She wasn’t interested at all, but she wanted me to color it and I colored every page in that book. And fortunately it was lost during Covid and never returned to us.

So Randy was in our storage yesterday looking for some photos for my work and he found my old pencils and brought them inside. Inspired by you, I am going to begin sketching and see what I come up with. I’m feeling a nudge from God! ✨💜🤗🙏

Charlotte!!! This is amazing! What a beautiful daughter you were to your mom. And she was an artist? That’s incredible - but no doubt where you get your talent and interest. We were very blessed to have parents that inspired us and passed on an interest and some creative genes. I am so excited this inspired you! I don’t know what’s happening, but it feels like a mission to keep growing and creating. All from God. It is passing through friends and onto me as well and now onto you! And yay! Randy must have been in your storage when we were in ours! How funny! It was Sunday for us! You have your original pencils now! I hope you share, but mostly I hope you enjoy the process and it brings the kind of joy I feel! I would normally be frustrated, but it hasn’t been that way. It’s been different. Thank you for sharing this with me! Love you! ox

Enjoyed this!! The pencil suits your soul & I can't think of a better model than the "abstracky" face of Miss Reese. The face of many wicked intentions, lol.

Yes! I love cats, although ours is very obnoxious! Wishing I could adopt another but it's never worked with Reese, although we have tried our best. And this new release of sorts is very weird indeed and totally from the Spirit! I am loving it. Sending you my love Simone. Thank you so much. ox

I love it, Deb!!! I love your Klee inspired cat and your foray into a new kind of creating. I recently got a huge book of Paul Klee at our library sale, it’s been so interesting reading his story and examining his art. I love his use of color, and it does feel quite jazzy, as you said! What a treasure your art loving grandchild is, and lucky to have supportive, encouraging family. I’m so glad you are enjoying the art books and thank you so much for mentioning my art. You are an inspiration to me, too. Sending you love and a hug and prayers, too ❤️

Goodness Jenn! I was definitely nervous but I had so much fun with this cat that it felt good to put it out there. I am now hunting for a Paul Klee book too! I can’t believe you found a huge one! I LOVE the huge art books that were John’s grandpa’s. You can see the work :) The fact that he was a musician too and just his story, the ups and downs. Love his use of color, the modern aspect. Very whimsical. It’s a lot of fun to be the grandparents that have the “art” element. We are very blessed. I admire you so much Jenn. I’m just having fun and it’s because of you and my other friends here. We keep each other going. This leads me to thinking more about what we will do for a collab? I’m getting excited about one! Sending you much love and hugs back. Thank you Jenn. It means the world that you liked it! oxox
