I know people who are still going at it my age (63) approaching 30 or more years! It can be very taxing on the body with the equipment - but then nowadays (I sound old) kids take one camera and one spare battery out! Crazy. Thank you so much Ken. ox
Understood. I have a certain finger that droops onto the glass of my phone and subscribes me to Substacks while I'm browsing through the app. Then I have to go through and unsubscribe.
What a beautiful retelling of your experiences as wedding photographer, the ups, downs, ins and outs of it. Having officiated a couple of weddings myself, I can really appreciate all the work that goes into capturing the couple’s big day and how you want it to last a lifetime. Loved all the photos freezing life into an eternal moment.
Oh thank you so much Victory for reading through this and for the lovely comment :) That's so cool you have officiated! It's quite a big deal sending two people off into a lifetime (hopefully) of commitment! Overwhelming to think about. Sending you a lot of love. Happy Easter! oxox
I loved reading this and looking at the photos. It stirred up some forgotten memories of our family weddings and made me want to bring out the albums again.
Thank you mom. I love all the old black and white family wedding images. Especially yours and dad's taken by a fella with the last name, "Hewitt." Crazy! ox
Thanks for this vivid reflection of your work. I took wedding pictures 50 years ago, on film that had to be sent away for printing. The worry was excruciating until the prints came back. The pressure got to me and I moved on to other things. Best wishes to you.
Thank you for reading Charles! and oh yes, the film days and weddings!! Had a good taste of it and wonder how I lasted? I actually regretted leaving film for digital, despite my anxiety over the responsibility. I felt as though it might have been a special "niche" in a world full of insatiable digital tech. My dad loved photography but editorial was far more his thing. Weddings: hard no! It is a ton of pressure as you said and he didn't like drama!
Oh, this is so lovely. Brought a few happy tears to my eyes thinking of my own wedding. How lucky you were to be part of so many beautiful moments and to capture them for posterity. Your work is gorgeous as ever and I can tell you were passionate about your work.
Thank you so very much Jenn! I feel so blessed it made you emotional over your own wedding ❤️ It's a gift to hear from you. I was very passionate and I'm humbled that you could feel it through the images. oxox
All of your wedding clients were very blessed to have your eye & heart to stop time on their big day. The B&W's capture the moments like none other, expressing the souls wonderful journey of the day.
so funny! The reason I used the Ring "Bear" is because my youngest was also a Ringer Bearer and he was three at the time. He said initially, through tears, "I don't wanna be a bear!!!" We broke out in laughter, to which he cried more. Another story! Oh what a day that was. I love the description of the baseball diamond wedding and the paths not taken! It's amazing to believe they grow up to be 40? Love the name Frankie (my little Violet is in love with a little boy named Frankie!) and I'm deeply sorry you lost your Amy. I'm glad this made you sentimental. It did my mum too. She has the most beautiful black and whites from her wedding day and to think they were captured by a man with the last name Hewitt! There are so so so many stories aren't there?
Thank you for commenting and sharing with me,
God Bless you Jenni and wishing you a beautiful Easter. ox
Our stories are so worth telling. They will carry onward through the generations hopefully. The good, the bad and the ugly. Our journey comes together through them. Hope you've had a peaceful Easter! ox
That type of photography was tough for me haha
It's definitely not for everyone!! Shocked myself 😅
Weddings: the toughest job in photography.
No truer statement Ken! Thank you! I did come home with everything taken out of me, but I wouldn't trade any of it :)
I've done a few weddings in my life. None as a professional.
The story of the last one is here:

She's a bad, bad girl - evil, even - and will be an old woman when she gets out of prison. But she changed my life. For the better.
You say that you lasted for 16 years. Few people can do weddings that long.
You're made of some pretty Special Stuff.

OK, thanks for the heads up. I'm currently watching for that paid subscription to disappear. If you need something from me to make it so, let me know.
Changed my mind! Can't wait to look through your pictures and stories!

I had forgotten our little village photographer had the name of Hewitt, lol.

Best wishes to you as well ❤️
I would be similar to your father. I’m glad I understood photography. As an editor and publisher I managed many photographers.
Thank you for sharing @Deborah. I couldn't ask for more. This is amazing 👏
Thank you for reading this Tawhid! I so appreciate it.
God Bless you ❤️

Yes, absolutely, your passion is so evident, but you always come through that way in your writing, it’s something I enjoy about reading your work!

Beautiful!!
Thank you little brother for always having my back, encouraging me to keep going. Your comments mean the world.
I love you. oxox
