Oh goodness, Deb. No, not blades of grass, or spokes in a wheel, cogs in a machine… man surely does see us that way, though I don’t believe God does.
The waiting in line is infuriating, enough to raise the hackles of even the most patient of souls. Like those cars on the interstate breezing past the “merge for roadwork” signs. I am trying to remember, waaay back, butthe comedian Dane Cook had a funny shtick about waiting in line that I be like to think about when I’m stuck. Sometimes the humor helps 😂
No, we are far more! And I do often think we are the last to know what respect is or the ability to apologize or reflect. But I know the thoughtful are out there.
It's hard to survive California without patience let alone life!
Thank you Jenn. Trust me, comedy is our survival tool as well -- but sometimes it's downright terrifying to be on these roads. oxox
As I navigate the wild LA freeways, I could really use a sprinkle of patience! Help me keep my cool when the traffic turns into a parking lot. Remind me to enjoy the ride, even if I’m stuck with a million other cars! Bless my journey with calm vibes and a dash of humor.
Thanks for riding shotgun with me!
Amen!
Deborah, if there's one thing that truly tests our patience, it's navigating through Los Angeles traffic! Bless your heart! I'm just thankful that the preschool is only a few miles away from your home! 🤗💜✨🙏
Right???? I pray the most for travel safety and practically kiss the ground when I arrive safely somewhere. It's often like being catapulted into outer space -- then drop-landed to your location!! Even my 15 minute ride to babysit is often terrifying. Love you Charlotte -- I surprised my mom and I'm up in Oregon. oxox
I am glad you can be so patient waiting while stuck in traffic!! It shows you have plenty of patience, respect for others, and you don't want to cut ahead in the line even if you wanted to. It shows you the type of person you are, Charlotte. Continue doing what you are doing in situations like that.
I can feel the energy drain while reading this, I'm greatful not to be in a huge major city, where people don't comprehend what it is to actually ignore the clock and enjoy the moment~ I don't want to have patience to be part of the mega-herd. Everybody learned too well how to "Hurry up & wait" and it doesn't seem to occur to anyone who lives in that daily that so much of their life is being wasted away, waiting.
Dawn! I need so bad to catch-up with you! You’re right. The big cities are hard places - but some states are hard as a whole due to the big cities and policy making/voting for the whole state. So many moments are missed in the madness. I’m a big observer of life and facial expression - and it can be so sad. The looking down, the me-firsters, the traffic. It’s definitely something I don’t enjoy - but at the same time there is an energy to the city that also feeds a part of me. Hard to explain but I’m two people at times with intro/extrovert and country/city. I feel them both - and catch the positive wind of both. Life anywhere throws us drama and trauma. I will read your piece and I know I have others to catch. I’m with my mama in rural Oregon (pop. barely 3k! talk about peace!!) — Love you. oxox
You face drivers too slow. I see them going too fast (95, 100, 105 in an 70 !) on the highways, and yes, big rigs seem to have no rules anymore ignoring the trucks use 2 right lanes rule. Your examples here demonstrate the boldness, callousness, lack of respect, courtesy and entitlement that is being faced. It’s all about me me me. You don’t count. It’s all about what I want, what I think and you better conform or else.
Civility is a memory, or so it seems. It’s one reason I’ve become so disenchanted with people and activities. You’re saint on earth. You showed calmness, patience and maturity. Everything that other group lacked.
Ken! it can sooooo feel this way! John deals with it day in and day out. It can cause so much stress and anxiety. I try not to use freeways at bad times especially, but he has no choice. Even the streets are full of me-firsters. And I'm no saint -- there are the occasional rides where my trucker mouth goes full force mostly on them!! lol. -- with a million apologies to God later. But seriously how can driving be this terrifying?? or grownups and young adults so rude?
Thank you Ken for all the love and kindness. I know you're missing your people on days like Mother's Day but I hope it's a peaceful and reflective one. ox
I can tell you have been in contemplative mood. In my opinion, we are both blade of grass and lawn and our earthly challenge is to successfully function as both simultaneously. To come to terms with ourselves as both individual and part of the collective. ‘Pick your battles’ is a long running theme in my house!
Yes. I am the observer indeed. And that's a beautiful way to look at the blades of grass. Rather than being run over by the wheel or trodden on by man's boot. To stand up as individual and to also see the lush green grass as whole 💚
And is that a brilliant line or what? Picking our battles. We must be wise. Thank you for reading friend. ox
We are not blades of grass, we are made in the image of God, to love God with our whole heart, mind and soul, and our neighbour as ourselves.
Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.
(Prov 31:8-9)
If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.
Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work?

U reminded me of one of my pieces from last year:

Yesss. Perfect 👌🏻

We are most definitely made in His image Martin. I love all of these verses, but especially Proverbs 24:10-12
Thank you for your love, strength and kindness friend. ox
