Thank you so much Andrew! There are just some things that "hold" for years. When I wrote this and my youngest sent me that poem - it was perfect. Hard to believe when I look at those pictures we had left a country behind and a whole family. JFK had just been assassinated. crazy. Oh I can get pretty emotional as I grow older. We are always looking for that piece of home. I believe that is within and with those that love us for exactly who we are -- and the like-minded friends that God brings us. Safe places. Hope you're having a good weekend and maybe celebrating a mom! oxox
What a beautiful story and tribute and poem. I remember one of my babies had the cord wrapped around his neck. My son John. I remember wanting to push and sharply, the doc siad "The cord is around the neck ....stop! It was like his life was in my hands. I was only fearful for a moment though. God has been good to me for a long, long time and there for me whenever I asked Him to help or to hold me. I'm pretty sure this is true for you and for most mothers. It takes raising children to learn what sacrifice is, what unconditional love and tough love are and in the end, somehow when you trust, you make it through until you look in the mirror and see that a lot of time has passed during that jumble of emotions called motherhood. God bless mothers, everywhere and in every circumstance. And bless those who mother other children as well. Love is truly blind; We just have to love without thought. What a concept ... lol :) Happy Mother's Day, Deb!! Much love!
God was good to us. And yes it takes so much to raise children. So much sacrifice and one day they will learn all about it too. I'm going naturally gray now and really reflecting on it. Thank you for this beautiful comment friend. God Bless you and God Bless all the mamas and ladies taking care of a child in any capacity. Hope you had the best Mother's Day. Sending you much love. oxox
Oh mom, I adore you. I've never known anyone that can write like you. Just like that. This really describes the scene in at that moment. Ian and I were saying today how great it is to share poetry and works that remind us of how we're feeling. I love you mom and can't wait to celebrate you soon. Thank you for fighting for me all those years ago in our little bungalow. You and dad gave me a great life. ox
Happy Mother's Day, Deb. Hope all is going well. We are praying for you. God bless and keep you always. Being a mother is sharing part of the process of God's gift of life. You are a walking miracle! OX
Thank you so much Ned. I don't know if Ecuador has a Mother's Day, but I always wish Marisol the same for every day. That she is loved and appreciated. I know she is. You have a wonderful family. Sending my love and prayers. God keep you all. I'll be writing more tomorrow on the other posts. oxox

Oh Jenni, how scary. Yes, this is what happened to us. I wrote about it here: https://deborahthewitt.substack.com/p/underwater-birth-not-a-whales-tale?utm_source=publication-search

She threw her bike across the grass, her uniform awry
I heard the hurried footsteps pass, too out of breath to cry
Pushing hard with all my might, there was no other way
My midwife entered past midnight, fell on her knees to pray
So hard to breathe but push I must and then a stranger came
with instruments I had to trust in spite of sudden pain
and then the air felt soft and still, the calm before the dawn
A tiny cry, a welcome greet, my baby girl was born.
