Remember we were told we are in this together Deborah? That slogan everywhere! Thank you for writing this one.
Just before the lockdowns, a friend of mine who had migrated from East India asked me to drive her to Visalia to find hand sanitizer, using her car since she wasn’t comfortable driving out of town. Her husband, a doctor, urged her to get it as soon as possible because COVID was on the rise. Unfortunately, the entire town was sold out! 🙈 Luckily, I managed to buy a BIG bottle of wine , which we definitely needed in the days that followed when the lockdowns were enforced. It was complete chaos, and we’re fortunate that time has moved on. However, it did fracture families and end many friendships. I’m truly grateful to those who stood up for our rights during that period of madness; their support meant a lot!
Yessss! “We’re in this together” made me feel queasy. I could have said more like when a man went crazy on my almost blind mom who was struggling to breathe in the grocery store with me and pulled her mask down from her nose. I thought I’d kill him - but remained calm and told him to stay away from us. The whole hand sanitizer thing! Give me wine instead! lol. Thank goodness your friend had you! We can look back on all the positive things too. It was hard for me to find them then - but now I can see the learning and the growth too, which we’ve talked about a lot when going through grief. Thank you Charlotte! I can’t wait to meet up! ox
Blanca, I'm so sorry 😞 It's hard to believe all that happened. It will take time to recover. Thank you for reading and for your comment. Sending you a big hug. ox
That was the most deep & thought provoking article, Debbie. It raised many memories of that recent period of time, some of which I prefer to remain buried. So well written.
Thank you so much mom. You know this means so much to me, coming from an amazing writer. I had not faced that week for five years and it felt good to write it. I love you. ox

What a fabulous pic for a tumultuous time! I started feeling residual PTSD unbelief last year...thanks for this.
