Absolutely love music! My favourites are too many to mention. my early influences came from my parents who owned a Victrola and a mess of 78's. We were allowed to play them as much as we wanted!! By then they were into the new stereophonic and 33 ⅓ s. I started with 45s, graduated to albums, then cassette tapes (bypassed 8-tracks) then CD's and the MP3s on ipods. The best though it s LIVE! I got to see a lot of live shows. My youngest brother is an organist/piano whiz who also can play violin, cello, recorder, and the tiny play piano that Schroeder played in the Peanuts comic with Lucy draped over the top. I love music!!! Too much to say. I will never hear it all but thankful for all of it. I have a Victrola in the shed. It's Sarah's. she can't take it til they add on to their house. One day at a time. It's not going anywhere. Poetry? Poetry is best enjoyed with eyes closed in the dark and absorbing just the words. But I can't write it. I tried. Have you ever, Deb? I had a book of it I wrote but ended up burning most of the pages. Embarrassing!! Haiku is fun though. Limericks too. Love your writing and am impressed that you still travel to see live music. I do too!
How did I miss this Jenni! I am very sorry! I know how much you feel the music too! How we moved through all those gadgets to listen and then the "live" music that shows us even more about the artist(s). I love how you also come from a musical family and that it guides your heart and soul. Oh I'd love to see a picture of the old Victrola! amazing! There will be a perfect place for it someday! I have been dabbling in poetry more since I took up my Substack. I have figured out I do best from a "flow" sense and try to run to what I want to say as soon as I feel it (sometimes it's impossible to get to the computer, but if possible I use my Notes App on my phone), then begin and challenge myself to end and not to edit, except for maybe a minor thing like placement or one word. It's been a total God thing.
Thank you for this lovely comment and for reading and supporting my crazy journey of writing! Much love to you and your family! I hope you are enjoying summertime and your newest grandchild. oxox
I agree, these are the things that feed our souls and express the things we otherwise wouldn’t know how to! We wrapped up last week 🙌. Now that I have more free time, I am lost in my head. Emphasis on the lost. Time to clean house.
They truly are! and oh boy! I remember that lost, kinda unprepared feeling of summer upon me, with the kids knowledge that they were "done," and what's up for summer mom??!! Good luck cleaning! ha ha!
Wow! Feels like I’ve been to church, these songs so touching! Love how you weave the history in, your personal struggles and praise the Lord all at once. Very spiritual piece, Deb! Beautiful with all the feels! Love your writing so much! 🥰❤️🙏✨
Thank you so much Joan! We feel so blessed to make music dates our "thing!" To make music a huge part of our life! There was so much to think about and I have always loved that song from The Punch Brothers. I guess it really got to me when Chris Thile performed it alone. So powerful. Our conversation in the car made me go on a spaghetti noodle of research and it was fun to share! Who knew that a song, taken from an Edgar Allen Poe poem, would lead to so much :) You can feel the different stories interwoven in the song, especially when it's boiled down to just the mandolin. Then the reason we went was to hear the old lay songs. Chris Thile is a genius.
You are so kind to me! I just saw you have a new piece from your tag! Thank you! I will be reading very soon :). Sending you much love. oxox
Thank you Jenn for being my one comment fan!! ☺️😅. It was fun to experience, dive in and write! I continue to grow my love and appreciation of music. It's fun to share it! I know it's different for everyone, but ...? I truly don't know what I'd do without it. Or without art, poetry and love of history. Amen 🙏🏻
Hope you have a good week! Assuming this is your wrap-up week? Sending you a big hug 🤗😘 ox
Powerful! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Penny. Whatever goes on in my brain, I know that music takes me on a spectacular journey and in that, I heal. ox
