These memories are priceless. Such a wonderful post. So amazing to see the photos of young Mum & Dad living their American dream. Hearing you & Mum talk about it makes it just perfect! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ˜Ž I can only imagine their gleaming smiles at the Trini gig!! 🎢

They truly are priceless! We had such a good life with mum and dad. I love how they were so adventurous! I’m blessed to get these recordings for us to treasure :) Can you just see them dating down on Sunset? their smiles, like you say, at Trini’s show and dancing at Whiskey a Go Go!

Love you Adam. oxox

Oh yah, the experience we had was way before car seats… either that or my parents didn’t use them… which I doubt… sometimes mom would be sleeping on the back seat , because it was dad’s turn to drive. And my older brother would sit in the passenger seat, riding shotgun with the assistance of a bucket to chicken to help keep Dad awake in the wee hours of the morning.

There always was the same place that we would stop at there were a couple of them on those endless highways called β€œlittle Americaβ€πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ do you remember them. ??

Btw we also went to California and visited Disneyland before there was a Disney world. I remember the pirate River ride, a band of animated bears and β€œit’s a small world after all”

It's crazy how we rode around back then! and I do remember that "little America!" Endless highways, but no traffic like today :(. I can totally see the bears! Vintage Disneyland! Also, no crowds! ugh! The thought of going there now, via the freeway, makes me just want to stay home! Sad :(

P.S. I love looking at photos. I worked at a One Hour Photo shop and the best thing after printing the photos, was placing them in the envelope because I got to look at all of them.

HA! No doubt! ! I brought in my share too. I got a pretty good discount. Not why I wanted the job. That was an unexpected perk. I loved photography. Learned stuff at the little shop.

Awe, thank you Robin! I love keeping up with you and anyone that is reading my stories! I think you can share by the buttons below each post? I haven’t tested them (oops) but I believe they work. One is to β€œshare this story,” and another is β€œshare publication” - maybe not exactly like that! lol

Love this! Great pics too. I have a pic of my dad in the same regalia of the time, pants, cardigan, shirt and tie:) The 'Go-Go' video and picture taken outside, classic!

Hey Lee! ha ha! Those outfits were so cool! My dad made us laugh so hard in his denial over wearing such great outfits! He literally argued he never wore a red sweater jacket! Guess his style became more and more like a tough western movie character as he aged! Wasn't the Go Go video the BEST!! I've watched it a few times! Such classic vintage days! Thank you so much for listening to mum and I. Hope you're doing well. oxox

Your mom still has a bit of the accent. So different depending on where you came from in England. I have two dear friends from England. I had a few more, but responsibilities and communication issues separated us. (I guess I'm outspoken when it comes to nation- bashing, which is people bashing, which I can't stomach; we all should look inward first) The two I have left have been very dear to me because they really aren't interested in the differences between people but the things that unite us. I'm thankful for people who look at the big picture. Your mama is a sweetie. We are united as merely human beings. <3

Mum and Dad both hung onto their accents! My friends loved coming over just to hear them speak :). I'm glad you still have a few of your British friends. The big picture is the most important. Humanity. Sadly so many people are spiritually bankrupt and don't see people like themselves. We are all so broken in different ways. Thank you so much for listening. Mum is a sweetie and it's such a blessing to have these recordings. I think the family will appreciate them later on... Sending you my love always Jenni. oxox

The pics are kinda reminiscent to me… we didn’t go to the same places as you… but Mom and Dad were always taking pix… the cameras got better, as technology grew. Just as my brothers and I grew and experienced a lot of places on vacations back in the 60’s and 70’s… back when we road over night from Colorado to Oregon or Kentucky to visit family… with no seat belts or shoulder harnesses in the back seats of our 1960’s VW bus/van. My bros and I would sleep πŸ’€ on the back seats across the bus and sometimes one of us on a sleeping bag on the floor!

Hey Jules, this is awesome to hear! We traveled the same all around the Western States and in a white station wagon where we slid all over the place (inside)! ha ha! But "we" actually had the VW Bus that we raised our own kids driving around in. I need to write the story about how I had to jumpstart it all the time. We had a '79 Orange bus. That's so crazy that you slept on the back seats or on the floor! All we had were the lap belts and we put our kids carseats through those! yikes! Took them camping in it all the time. The youngest, as a baby, slept in a palm basket on one of the seats, the oldest two on the floor, since we turned one of the bench-seats sideways behind the driver's seats, palm basket on that! Us on the fold down bench seat in back! Then we got a tent! Then we got an old RV. So many fun times and disastrous times camping. I am always amazed we all survived or parents travels! We did all those trips in the 60's 70's with no seatbelts! Now, the grandkids are in carseats until 7 or 8? I'm surprised we aren't all required to wear helmets considering the roads are horrible!! Especially in California! Thank you so much for listening to mom and I. Hope you're having a good week. ox

Been away from here last couple of weeks so just catching up. Precious. It’s great you are thinking to record these interviews with your mum because future generations will get so much out of all you are documenting.

The photographs are wonderfully evocative of an era, in some she reminds me of Samantha from β€˜Bewitched’.

The part about the parcel smelling of him, taking time to open it was lovely to listen to. Smell plays such a strong part in our memories.

As usual your gratitude chimes loudest of all. And your mother’s too. Made me smile. 😊

It's hard to be away from here! It's been a few days for me and I've tried to peek - but haven't had time to concentrate! Thank you so much Julie for listening to us chat. Mum is so sweet and it's a real treasure to record her for our family, and like you say for anyone that wants a bit of history. It's funny you said that about the photographs! Mum was always compared to Samantha from Bewitched! Elizabeth Montgomery :) I thought she could move her nose and we'd make her try! lol. And... those parcels. Still get a bit emotional thinking of them and Granddad. Nana's sewing basket. Smell is such a strong memory. Thank you so much for your kind comment. I am truly grateful for my life and whatever family and friends want to be in it. Glad it made you smile. oxox

That’s interesting I picked up on that resemblance then!

Yes just before my grandma died, aged 91 ,I had recorded her interacting with my son on a video. The idea was to record my son who was just a baby at the time but what shines through years later is that it’s the only audio recording I have of her voice. I love to revisit it ❀️

Yes, you reminded me of how my mum was compared! I had forgot.

Oh and I love that you recorded your grandma with your son. That’s beautiful. Something about the voice I love more than β€œseeing.” I must get you on the podcast! I wonder if we can zoom country to country? I was a real bucker of the zoom thing during the you-know-what plandemic. I can get the voice recording only from it - but what’s fun is to see each other while doing it. More natural.

Beautiful Memories. I am so Jealous. I don't have a History like that. My mother never liked being Photographed The reason why I didn't know at the time but discovered years later. And what photos That we had of all of us kids. With the exception of one of me at one year old were destroyed in a house fire after both parents were gone. It survived because I had it in my current (at the time) Journal that I grabbed out as we fled. I had older Journals But they didn't survive. But That one photo has written on The back By my Mother " Linda's look right before she is about to do something bad" I am looking sideways, probably making sure the coast was clear. Some of My later phots have captured the same look. It is so Wild. I had the "required" Photo by all Vicksburg, Mississippi kids sitting on a Civil War cannon. I say all the time i want to get one. AT my age Climbing up on a cannon is probably not easy or recommended. Thanks again for Reminding me of good memories, Although not as awesome as Yours.

Awe, dear friend! I am finally catching up! Long weekend. Hope you are doing good and had some peace and happiness come your way this past Labor Day weekend!

Dad was the big photographer and documenter! Mum had no choice! ha ha! It was dad that was rarely in pictures - and I am so glad we have some! The older he got the more he opposed! Or looked sideways in every shot! ugh! ha ha!

I am so very sorry you lost so much in a house fire :( That's just devastating. I know you treasure the small tokens you do have. It's amazing how much we love pictures and I often think I have to ask to be in them myself (since I am the picture "taker!") - but still nothing comes with us at the end. There's something about staring at our pictures though that does fill us up. You literally have a photo sitting on a Civil War cannon? Oh you need to do that today girlfriend!!! That would be AMAZING!!! Take your gun with you! ha ha!

Love you and thank you, from both mum and I, for listening to us gab! oxox

Great way to start my morning hearing you and your mom! I was born in Seattle on Dec 26 1956. We moved to Beaverton Oregon then California in I think 1964. I remember my mom crying when JFK was assassinated while we were in Oregon. All the places you visited we must have crossed paths before. So good to hear your voices again. Hi to your mom! So many great mechatting with your dad while he worked on many of his projects . Have a wonderful day! Doug

Doug! This was so cool to see! I'm finally catching up after the long weekend. Thank you so much for listening to mom and I! We really appreciate it! I'll never forget you coming by to talk to dad. He had projects for years! I always thought you were so cool. Did you give me my first puka shell necklace? I feel like you did. Did you know dad's birthday was Dec. 29th? Wow, your mom was probably dying to have you before Christmas! She got through Christmas Day 1956 and the best present of all arrived the next day :) We probably did cross paths on the road to all those places. JFK, MLK and RFK's assassinations still resonate today, especially with RFK Jr. now in the spotlight. I really pray he is protected.

Thank you again Doug! I always tell my John that you have a very cool family that lives in CO with an exceptional snow skier in the family! How's she doing? Both your girls? All of you? I have become terrible about Facebook. I should probably go look! ox
