Aim at Heaven and you will get Earth 'thrown in': aim at Earth and you will get neither.
- C.S. Lewis
I haven’t done a Sunday Amen in awhile, but lately my conscious has been acutely awakened to the fact that I am not living my motto: aim at heaven.
In front of my eyes, with every step or view I take, is a complaint about the world before me. Whether it’s reading the disgruntled, writing the disgruntled, feeling helpless to what is happening within this digital black hole, especially to the young and old in our society., one entering a world of idols, many leaving a lost world behind, feeling confused.
There is a heaven above.
While the old are historically working on going backwards to a time where character mattered, looking classy or covered up for the most part mattered, dinner together, manners, answering the phone and face to face gatherings mattered, we have swept them up into a futuristic odyssey that continues to wipe out all that truly matters.
"There is a time for many words, and there is also a time for sleep. And empty words are evil" - Homer, The Odyssey and the nature of words.
For as noisy as our world is, it is empty. And we are feeling empty within the noise.
How do we find our way out?
I see many people writing about this. But what if we just lived for heaven? For the odyssey homeward. What would that mean? To walk the earth in a natural state knowing that we truly desire to be in a place of rest and beauty, where our bodies will be transformed and in perfect fellowship with one another? How do we get there?
To experience eternal joy.
I’ve often heard from people, when discussing belief in God, “you know my dad (or my my mom, friend, etc.) never went to church but I knew he/she walked with God. One friend said, “When I was married my father threw us a big reception in the street, by his business. I had no idea who most of those 500 people were. I realized the impact he had made on his community that day, how much he was loved, but mostly how much he loved.” That marriage was 45 years ago.
Simple old fashioned innately born fellowship, caring for each other and the gift of earth.
Aim at heaven.
Amen.
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16 (verse delivered in my mailbox today)
Vince Lombardi got it pretty well right when he said, “Aim for perfection and you can achieve excellence. Good stuff, Deborah.
I stop listen to, reading the disgruntled. We do keep community and fellowship, our manners, gatherings, know and do the right things, spread kindness and hope, share a smile, a hand, hope. Grateful for your words… aim for Heaven is how we live…if you are reminding us to be better, thank you, dear Deb! Your heart and the quotes and the way you express matter so much. Thank you for this. Love always. Amen. 🫶🙏💓
