The Reciprocity of Time
Time for a baby Child's imagination Grownup responsibility Time to travel Fresh laundry Summer breeze Time undistracted Purpose filled Energy giving Time and space Ominous earth Everything Time surrounded Brick to dust Stories told Time to discern Slow to speak Life lessons Time gardening Death and grief Rebirth Time together Reverence Life giving Time untouchable Ubiquitous Reciprocity of time
“Somewhere the Sky touches the Earth, and the name of that place is the End.”
- a Kamba saying, from a 1972 “timely” book, that belonged to my husband’s grandfather.
A beautiful observation of East Africa and the painful account of the “Lonely African,” who then, was poised between the land that nourished his roots and the conflicting demands of western culture. “The Tree Where Man Was Born,” by naturalist Peter Matthiessen and “The African Experience,” by photographer Elliot Porter.
Nothing is new under the sun. Everything we can conceive will happen again and again. How we use our time, the quality., and how that time equates in the end is most important. Time given, taken, lost, stolen. What do we do with that? How do we rise through the ashes of tremendous grief? What will we pass down once we’re gone? What do we hold dear for the next generation? How will our families eternally carry their time and seasons? Will it be through ever-changing culture, demands, outside influence.., or rooted in a time capsule of people who breathed life through us? My answer, I am finding, is never ending gratitude for the time I have been gifted. I had time with those I have lost and in the overall picture, the time held much value to my heart. The fragility of life is timed in seconds.

We are finding our way through this life by doing the things that we are called to do. I admire you so much for leading the way, and I know you're tired. I get tired. It's tiring. I wrote this piece as a string of thoughts on my mind to say, in a way, the obvious?.. that time is a gift. We know this - but we live knowing that those we love are losing precious time. They might not look at us as if we are precious - but it hurts us because we know that they are precious. We know that God wants so much more for us. Love you friend. oxox
I absolutely love this as it resonates with me in the heart struggle I have been experiencing this we with my daughters 30th birthday and no contact since Nov 7th 2020.
