Dear Subscribers,

Hope you’re having a peaceful weekend. In typical Southern California style we are weather-dramatic. After an unusually cold and wet winter/spring, we had temps of 80F for several days at Easter. Then the light switch again! The last few days were quite chilly with rain. Today we are back to 75F! From gardening in summer heat to playing in wintery rain puddles all in the same week :)

Onto a few things of business for The Family We Keep…

I’ve decided to remove the “Chat” icon from the top of my menu bar, which is just like texting. I gave it a try however realize most people are too busy these days keeping up with family, friends and work texts or other apps. It’s a bit much for all of us!

Yesterday, Substack rolled out their new “Notes” and I got excited for a minute. Notes is an “internal” and quick version of sharing preview posts, favorite writers and thoughts within the “Substack community” (including all who subscribe to Substack simply to read newsletters), I have realized that it’s just another area, that for a junior writer, like me, holds very little input or communication. It can also confuse!

For now, I probably won’t entertain Notes and took my first note down.

UPDATE: SINCE JANUARY 2024 I HAVE FOUND AN INCREDIBLE COMMUNITY ON “NOTES!”

With that said, I write to journal and leave something behind. This will remain my focus and not the spaces on top of spaces that keep us from further communication.

Thank you for sticking with me! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it.

God keep you on the journey,

deb :)

P.S. I posted this selfie on my first Note, in the rain yesterday, with “Violet.” When my dad passed away January 1st 2021, our daughter was pregnant and near delivering her. The day Vi was born, we found out that she was named after my dad’s mom. Her middle name would be my mom’s first name. “Violet Beryl.” Oh the tears we cried. God is so good.

I wrote a story about my grandmother Violet May here.

There is nothing more beautiful than spending time watching children grow and explore.

Vi, Teddy and me, “Nana”
